About Laura Stigler-Marier

I’ll try and keep this brief.

As I said on the Home page, I started writing songs when I was seven and ever since continued sporadically whenever the spirit moved. But a girl’s gotta eat – and feed her lipstick addiction, so I earned my keep in advertising, marketing and communications. Throughout the years, I wrote many an epic poem and :30 commercial jingles. I suppose those two disciplines conjoined to hone the craft of songwriting, which I began to do in earnest in 2010, sparked by a life-changing experience. What can I say. Experience inspires.

As for my influences, lyrically and musically, they’re all over the place. And from places all over. From Twitty to Twain (Shania, not Mark), Strait to Swift; from Broadway to Abbey Road. From my Mom singing “One for My Baby” in the kitchen, to my Dad, inspiring with his own songs and blasting show tunes on the “hi-fi”. My brother introduced me to Ennio Morricone. My sister and I screamed to Elvis. The mind’s a total mash-up.

I could go on,but I’d rather move on. So with that, I will say this:  Even though this page is About Me, it isn’t just. And so...

To my husband, Ken Marier, whose ideas inspire and whose creative instincts and piercing perceptions so often rescue the songs;

to Donn Marier, whose musical genius helps shape them;

to Nashville’s Beaird Music Group, where the world’s most gifted musicians and songbirds bring the songs to life and make them soar;

to my Dad, to whose writing I aspire to this day;

to my Mom, who was able to spot the truth blindfolded, from light-years away;

and to God,

my deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks.

Amen.
